All right, we’ve all been there. Bookshelf labels are great and let us make way more organized Memory Generation Book Collections!
But who hasn’t ever wished they could fit more than just two short lines on a bookshelf label…
It turns out, we can! We just need to poke around in some of the secret paths of the Mansus to do it…
The Workaround
But who hasn’t ever wished they could fit more than just this on a bookshelf label…
Revelation = 2 Lantern -> Light; Lantern
Satisfaction = 2 Grail + 1 Heart -> Calcite; Grail
without the final “Grail” being cut off due to the bookshelf character limit?
It turns out that has something to do with the editing end of things in the game itself, not where the bookshelf label is stored in the save file. It turns out that once a longer label description is in the save-game file, it loads up fine in-game. The Bookshelf Tooltip even stretches to fit it correctly! Just don’t edit that longer label in the game itself again, or you’ll lose it due to the editor restrictions.
In order to do this, open up your last save-game file (located at C:\Users\<user>\AppData\LocalLow\Weather Factory\Book of Hours\<savename>.json) and search for “EDITABLE_ILLUM_DESC”. An unlabeled bookshelf label looks like this: [“EDITABLE_ILLUM_DESC”: “”]. The space in-between those last two quotation marks where the actual label description goes. You can put anything in there and it’ll show up in-game!
A word of warning: I highly recommend editing the label in-game first as it’s otherwise hard to tell apart individual bookshelf data in the save file itself given the individual bookshelves aren’t conveniently named in the save-file.
One particularly useful thing about editing labels in the save file is that you can do cool stuff like labels with more than two lines!!! ([\n] is new line in the save file label description).
So you can now pull off Memory Collections like this all on one shelf….
Earth-Sign = 2 Nectar + 2 Scale -> DRQ; Nectar (Omen)
Impulse = 2 Moth + 1 Nectar -> Traveling Vol 1; Knock
Solace = 2 Heart + 1 Sky -> Traveling Vol 2; Sky
Storm = 2 Heart + 2 Sky -> DMCV; Sky
Cheerful Ditty = 2 Heart + 1 Sky -> Diaries; Sky (Sound)
Beguiling Melody = 2 Grail + 2 Sky -> Ruin; Grail (Sound)
Satisfaction = 2 Grail + 1 Heart -> Calcite; Grail
Sound = 1 Heart -> Hush House Key
with this save-file entry…
“EDITABLE_ILLUM_DESC”: “Earth-Sign = 2 Nectar + 2 Scale -> DRQ; Nectar (Omen)\nImpulse = 2 Moth + 1 Nectar -> Traveling Vol 1; Knock\nSolace = 2 Heart + 1 Sky -> Traveling Vol 2; Sky\nStorm = 2 Heart + 2 Sky -> DMCV; Sky\nCheerful Ditty = 2 Heart + 1 Sky -> Diaries; Sky (Sound)\nBeguiling Melody = 2 Grail + 2 Sky -> Ruin; Grail (Sound)\nSatisfaction = 2 Grail + 1 Heart -> Calcite; Grail\nSound = 1 Heart -> Hush House Key”
and get this very useful label!
Happy library organizing!
