Hello gamers! If you’re looking to spice up your Desktop Mate experience by changing characters using mods, you’ve come to the right place. This guide will walk you through the process step by step, ensuring you can enjoy your favorite characters in the game. Let’s get started!
Guide to Changing Characters with Mods
Step 1: Download and Install .NET 6.0 Runtime
First, you need to download and install the .NET 6.0 Runtime from the official Microsoft website. This is a prerequisite for running some mods.
Step 2: Get Custom Avatar Loader
Next, head over to GitHub and download the Custom Avatar Loader. Extract the two folders from the downloaded file into the directory where Desktop Mate is installed.
Step 3: Install MelonLoader
Visit the MelonLoader GitHub page and download the latest version. This tool is essential for loading mods into your game.
Step 4: Set Up MelonLoader
Run the MelonLoader installer and point it to the Desktop Mate game directory. If it doesn’t find the directory automatically, manually input the path and click the green “Install” button.
Step 5: Find and Download 3D Models
Search for 3D models in .vrm format. You can find them on various websites, including the VRoid Hub. Download the models you want to use as characters.
Step 6: Load Your Character in Desktop Mate
Launch Desktop Mate. On the first run, it might take longer to load, but that’s normal. Press F4 and select the downloaded .vrm file. Your character should now change to the one you’ve selected.
Bonus Tips
- If you encounter issues with the mod console, add the command
--melonloader.hideconsole
to the Desktop Mate launch parameters to hide it. - You can create your own characters using specific applications and import them into Desktop Mate.
