Road to Vostok: How to Reload the Mosin Rifle and RM-870 Shotgun

Struggling with the unique, hands-on reloading mechanics in Road to Vostok? You’re not alone. Unlike many shooters, this game demands precise manual actions for each weapon, which can be confusing at first. This guide will break down the exact steps to master reloading the iconic Mosin-Nagant rifle and the reliable RM-870 shotgun, ensuring you stay armed and ready in the harsh borderlands.

How to Reload the Mosin-Nagant Rifle

Crucial Note: You cannot reload the Mosin from your inventory menu. You must have it equipped in your hands.

Step-by-Step Process:

  1. Open the Bolt: Press CTRL once. Your character will pull back the bolt, opening the rifle’s action and ejecting any spent casing.
  2. Insert Rounds: Press Left Mouse Button (LMB). Each click inserts one 7.62x54mmR round directly into the internal magazine. You can load up to 5 rounds total.
  3. Close the Bolt: Press CTRL again. Your character will push the bolt forward, chambering a round and completing the reload.

What to Do After Firing:

  • After firing a shot, you must manually chamber the next round. Simply press R to work the bolt. If the internal magazine is empty, you will need to perform a full reload (steps 1-3 above).

How to Reload the RM-870 Shotgun

Step-by-Step Process:

  1. Open the Action: With the shotgun equipped, press CTRL once. This will break open the action.
  2. Load Shells: Press Left Mouse Button (LMB) to load 12-gauge shells one at a time into the tubular magazine. The RM-870 can hold a maximum of 8 shells (7 in the tube, 1 in the chamber).
  3. Close the Action: Press CTRL again to close the shotgun and finish the loading process.
  4. Chamber a Shell: Important: After loading, you must manually chamber the first shell. Press R to pump the forend, moving a shell from the magazine into the chamber. Your weapon is now ready to fire.

What to Do After Firing:

  • After each shot, press R to pump the shotgun. This ejects the spent shell and chambers the next one from the magazine.

Essential Tips for Survival

  • Practice is Key: The in-game Tutorial area is your best friend. Spend time there to drill these steps into muscle memory without the pressure of enemies.
  • Don’t Panic: In a firefight, fumbling your reload is a death sentence. Find cover first, then execute the steps calmly.
  • Mind the Chamber: Both weapons require that extra R press to chamber a round after loading or firing. Forgetting this will leave you clicking on an empty gun.
  • Inventory vs. Hands: Remember, the Mosin only reloads when actively equipped. The shotgun follows the same rule.
