I went into Aniimo expecting another creature-catcher and came out with a notebook full of timestamps, badge names, and one very lucky Celestus sighting. This guide is the walkthrough I wish I’d had on day one — a single path from landing in Idyll to standing on your own as a Pathfinder. If you’ve never touched the game, start here. If you’re already past the first boss, most of this will be review you can skim.
The whole point is to stop you from tab-hopping. I’ll cover your first catch, Starfall Valley, the mysterious cube, your first fight, joining the Polaris Institute, and the systems that actually matter early on.
What you get the moment you land
You start as a special observer on the Polaris Institute expedition team. Idyll is a haven for Aniimo, and it’s a completely different beast from the hollow escape — the real continent is far more incredible.

Early faces you’ll run into:
- Finny — your companion.
- Nicole — the guide who sets up your gear.
- Celestus — a lucky Aniimo said to grant good luck for life to anyone who spots one. Skilled at climbing and flying.
- Ember Pup — a fire-type Aniimo you’ll find asleep. It has a 100% catch rate while asleep.
Getting your gear and your first catch
The opening is short and painless:
- Receive your Polaris Institute approved exploration gear and complete identity verification — enter your name, then confirm and upload.
- With that gear, you can go wherever you want in Idyll.
- Approach an Ember Pup at the optimal distance so it doesn’t notice you. Wait for it to fall asleep.
- Pull out an Aniipod and attempt the catch. Timing matters — land it on your first try for a successful result.
Note: Dialogue can now be manually progressed. Previously it auto-advanced and sometimes went too fast, so if you’re coming back from an older build, this is a real quality-of-life change.
Starfall Valley: burning vines and grabbing everything
After your first catch, head to Starfall Valley — the spot the Institute arranged for today’s shoot.
Vines block the path. Use your Ember Pup’s fire-type ability to burn the obstacle (confirm with X). The terrain here is water pools, grassland, and giant trees, and at least three Aniimo families call it home.
Your task is to try catching one of each Aniimo type here. If you run out of Aniipods or hit issues, call Nicole.
Collectibles to sweep for:
- Chests
- Eggs
- Strange lotus leaves — look beneath them for a surprise. The water is shallow, so you’ll be fine.
A couple of species notes worth knowing before you go hunting:
- Hums are music lovers. They dig into the ground if startled, so you rarely hear them sing. The hum isn’t red because it’s shy — it got that color from soaking up too much sun.
- Celestus shows up here in a large group. They’re popular, adorable, and have a cool evolution. I spotted one shiny Celestus.
Don’t stress about missing something — you can return later, and base camp is close by.
Tip: Controller support is now in the game and feels good. Previously keyboard and mouse was the only option and the controller felt clunky, so if you bounced off early, it’s worth another shot.
The cube, the murals, and picking a blessing
After the Starfall Valley task, rest with Nicole. This is where the story opens up.
The expedition’s purpose is the Prismon Flow — the most amazing spectacle in the world. Aniimo exposed to Prismana can transform in unbelievable ways. Nobody knows where it comes from, why it causes Aniimo to transform, or even how Aniimo first appeared in this world. The Institute researches every aspect of this world: history, legends, how Aniimo came to be, elemental forces.
Badges come up here too:
- Polaris badges are given to people who make major research breakthroughs.
- 50th expedition badge — awarded to members who’ve never missed a single trip. Super rare; only five exist in all of Astra.
- Stargazer badge — earned from observing the Celestuses.

Then an abnormal signal interrupts the rest. Benny runs off, you’re thrown out, and you’re separated from Benny and Nicole. A strange structure swallows you — the mysterious cube. It looks impressive.

Inside, murals cover the walls and glow. The drawings show Aniimo and people in a city, and the Aniimo are drawn more carefully than the humans. Two talking Aniimo appear:
- Helion — the embodiment of soul, courage, and light.
- Lunara — representing Loon and embodying harmony and wisdom.

You then pick a blessing. Humans can only choose one at a time:
| Blessing | Source | Playstyle |
|---|---|---|
| Soul | Helion | Close-range attacker; the blessing makes you more fearless |
| Loon | Lunara | Ranged attacker; the blessing sharpens your thinking |
Pick Helion for close combat or Lunara for ranged attacks. The choice can be changed later, so don’t agonize over it.
Your first fight and joining the Polaris Institute
After choosing your blessing, the big cube awakens and swallows you. Instructor Lita shows up for your first fight.
- Use the Enhancement Skill (mushroom) to boost your Aniimo; you can also attack.
- Twine with your Aniimo to fight as one. Twining unlocks the world within your Aniimo and lets you truly unleash power.
- Dodge is important. Raw attack and ultimate are available.
After the fight, return to the Polaris Institute. Principal Oswin (also referred to as Osman) introduces himself — he explored Idyll in his younger days. Lunara has returned to the mural, and the Institute formally invites you to join. Your discoveries — ancient murals, ancient script, an Aniimo capable of speech — make the sub-Idyllian ruin a treasure trove for researchers of ancient Idyll civilization.
Enrollment steps:
- Visit the institute’s front desk.
- Verify identity and access rights.
- Answer the question: are you certain you wish to join the Polaris Institute?
- Receive the Polaris Institute uniform.
Beanie (Beanie number nine) gets upgraded here: stronger detection features, and it alerts you when it senses something important nearby. It’s your terminal, found and fixed by Instructor Lita and her team.
Other things to do at the Institute:
- Holographic discovery booth — visit when you have time to see what previous expeditions uncovered. The animology department added a hologram of a rare Prismana animal.
- Dr. Lewis (also called Dr. Louis) — an instructor from the pathfinding department supervising the expedition. He’s in charge and decides who gets in; slots are limited.
- Interest form — sign it for a chance to receive one of the Prismana Aniimo eggs on display. Prismana options mentioned include Porny, Stellaris, and Ignite. I went with Stellaris.
Your Prisma Aniimo companion works like this: once you reach level 40 and promote your title, it can travel alongside you before you permanently claim it.
Badges, the research console, and managing your Aniimo
Principal Oswin hands you a patch case for keeping all your badges.
The first badge you receive is the Starbound Journey badge — the Polaris Institute’s rarest and most exceptional honor, granted only to those who achieve truly invaluable accomplishments. It’s a symbol of glory and challenge. Adventure badges record a Pathfinder’s exploration achievements, training results, and chance encounters, and all badges are reviewed and certified by the Polaris Institute before being awarded. Beta examples included defeating bosses and catching certain flying Aniimo. Access badges via your character menu, then badges.
At the outpost (still under construction, with more facilities coming):
- Research console — analyzes data, records logs, and generates reports. Data you upload enriches the animology department’s database and earns research points. The Institute grants rewards based on your points. Report here every time you return from exploring — this is the main way to level up.
- High-potential Aniimo — the console quickly assesses the potential of an Aniimo you caught. Higher potential typically means superior abilities. Review via Aniimo management.
- Aniimo management — deploy up to four Aniimo. You can change your team.
- Egg hatching — place eggs to hatch. Three eggs can be hatched at a time (more slots may unlock later).
Expedition theme reminder: when Aniimo are exposed to the Prismon Flow, they may gain special forms, even unique powers. Aniimo forms are not fixed — different terrain and climates can change how they look, and the Prismana form is the rarest of all.
The branch trial: Lumin Amber, Blooms, and the sacred tree
Dr. Lewis assigns your first task: head to the branch and earn its recognition. The branch is the symbol of the veins and the sacred tree of Idyll. Touch it to earn its recognition — the journey itself is part of the trial.

Key systems here:
- Blooms are fast travel points. Touch a bloom to activate it and teleport between veins. There are more than 10 blooms (an achievement tracks 1 of 10).
- Lumin Amber is a crystal formed from overflowing vein energy. It holds incredible power. Give it to the branch to receive something special. Find it on trees, clouds, and water — sometimes special methods are needed to grab it.
Other bits from this stretch:
- Aniimo blessed by Lumin Amber — catch it and it’s yours.
- Bud Claw likes to burrow underground and hide. Put a Bud Claw on the team to help find it.
- Swimming — once you enter the water, you automatically twine with a swimming Aniimo and swim like you were born for it. Human character swimming is very slow, so use a swimming Aniimo. You can set different Aniimo to automatically twine for flying, gliding, and swimming.
- Flying — jump really high, then slowly fall down (glide).
- Nimi — cute creatures. A huge cluster of clouds can be cleared and Nimi illusions disappear. Golden ones may appear. When Nimbus falls down, it looks like they fainted — a chance to catch a few.
- Irises — catch at least one of every color (five or six colors) for a quest.
- Puzzles — line up mechanisms, similar to Genshin Impact and Breath of the Wild. Little shrines can be found in the distance.
- Flutin (also called butternim flood) — a catchable Aniimo.
- Boss — a level ~25 boss is nearby. It can be melted with fire but is blocked for now.
- Ember Pup evolution — the first time it evolves, it learns Hustle. Press X and A together to run really fast.
After touching the branch, you receive its recognition and blessing. You’re now part of this world. Offering Lumin Amber restores more of the branch’s energy and deepens your bond, and each blessing improves your abilities.
Nimbus Fields: Senior Lana, elemental counters, and Turbo
Dr. Lewis explains the next steps to reunite with Lunara. The Institute has launched an investigation into the ruins — Professor Boore will lead the team with Lita in charge of security. To wake Lunara, you’ll probably need the Ancestor Prism.
To qualify for the investigation:
- Become a student of the Institute.
- Take a guidance lesson from a senior student.
- Pass the assessment.
- Obtain the Nimbus Fields badge as proof of your knowledge of Idyll.
Find Senior Lana. She loves twining with her research subjects, so finding her may take some effort.
What the guidance lesson teaches:
- Ember Pups circle around a Flame Ruff. Ember Pups evolve into Flame Ruffs (their gamma stage form and ultimate goal). Twine with an Ember Pup to understand what they’re saying — later side quests require twining with an Aniimo of the same species to talk to them.
- Sanctums are big cube-like structures built long ago. They can repair the vein, and passing their trials gives worthwhile rewards. Some sanctums require co-op, and they can also be used as fast travel points. Sanctum challenges include puzzles, battles, and a speedrun swimming challenge — the faster you are, the more chests you get at the end.
- Turbo is the biggest, widest, fluffiest member of the Nimi family, and its temper is worse than other Nimbies. Flame Ruff’s element has no advantage over Turbo’s — that’s an elemental counter.
Turbo is a wind type. Use an element with an advantage (Helen/Helion, for example). The game shows a thumbs up or thumbs down on the lock-on indicator to tell you if your Aniimo is effective. Leveling up your Aniimo first is always a good idea.
Catching notes:
- Annipod Ultra is more powerful than a common Annipod. It improves your chances of catching a powerful alpha Aniimo like a Turbo if you defeat it.
- Turbo catch chance: 6% with a normal pod. Bosses can be caught with around a 10% chance.
After defeating Turbo, the guidance lesson is complete. You pass the course and become an official student of the Polaris Institute.
Quick reference numbers:
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| Recommended level for Turbo boss | 15 |
| Level cap after promotion | 35 |
| Energy replenish rate | Roughly one every minute |
| Egg hatch time | 60 minutes |
The energy system is similar to resin in Genshin Impact — spend it daily and it replenishes over time. There’s also a mode switch: set your Aniimo to automatically fight things, or leave an Aniimo on 1 HP so you can catch things easier.
The elite training plan is available on your terminal. Complete challenges to progress the story and upgrade. Required quest progress: do the first Aniimo tasks (four) and reach the level cap after promotion (35).

Bloomville, the Bloom Festival, and what you’re actually doing there
Bloomville is the place where flowers bloom — the land blessed by flowers and butterfly shadows, the land of flowing fragrance. It’s one of the first settlements in Idyll to establish ties with Astra, known for flowers and fragrances. Envoys trade with students stationed at Nimbus Fields.
Dia from Bloomville is a perfumer who can tell people from Astra by scent. The Bloom Festival is Bloomville’s most important celebration, held once every 10 years. The offering ceremony begins in a few days.
Lady Ireelia is a rare Aniimo called the Irisilus that makes its home near Bloomville. Every 10 years, Bloomville holds a ceremony to honor Ireelia with offerings and prayers. According to legend, she awakens during the ritual, bringing forth the Prismon Flow.
The Bloom Festival is a short event that overlaps with your preparation time for the ruins investigation. Your job is to represent Astra at the ceremony. You’ll attend the offering ceremony, observe the Iris’s once-in-a-decade appearance, and investigate the Prismon Flow if it appears. Bloomville is the location for the offering ceremony.
Main quest objectives:
- Go to the Bloom Festival
- Activate the Bloom in the Forest of Falling Stars
- Catch one Echo and one Pomeg in the Forest of Falling Stars (level 2 to level 25)
- Catch and report to 30
There’s also a Nemo you’ve never seen before. And on Irisilus: it’s an Aniimo from the Iris family, but Aniimo don’t grow that easily. If an ordinary Iris wants to become an Irisilus, it has to work really, really hard.
Tip: The Bloom Festival won’t take long, and by the time you return, you can join the investigation directly.
Bosses, energy, and catch odds in practice
Fight bosses a couple times to get rewards and waste energy — Prismana comes from full vein energy. You can find a few bosses every now and then just to burn that energy.
On the ultra catch with its 6% chance: don’t feel like you have to use it. On multiple occasions I somehow managed to catch things with such a low percentage. It’s not often, but it can happen. A 56% catch chance is not bad. If Aniimo break out of the ball, it’s not a problem — just catch them again. You can also do the quick catch.
Things that will get you killed or stuck:
- As a human, you only get so many hits; as an animal, you can take damage.
- Human swimming is very slow. Try not to fall in water when you haven’t got an animal that can swim.
- Explosion barrels are dangerous.
- There’s a boss at level 25, level 30, and level 35 in different areas. The level 25 boss is on a platform; if you fall in the water, you need something that can shoot in the water. Early on, that’s a bit of a pain.
- Path find challenges are like trainer battles at level 25. I don’t recommend doing them under level unless you’re really confident in your team.
Mail, dailies, and the systems worth checking
This is the stuff that quietly funds your early game, so don’t skip it:
- Check your mail for the pre-registration gift and extra launch items.
- Go to elite training and claim all.
- Complete your dailies and get the rewards.
- Aniimo challenge shows you where the things you can do are.
- Stamp rush — stamps might be the equivalent to Stardust Glitter from another game. There’s a stamp shop.
- Events — daily login for the event.
- Battle pass (season achievement) can be claimed.
- Shop — Vauxil coin is used for purchases, with a weekly limit of 1000. Exchange is available.
- Claim rewards from the Aniimo log.
- Seasonal quests — consume energy, catch Aniimo, log in free days.
- Tile assessment requires elite training first to progress.
- Elemental boost can be purchased.
The game is free-to-play and not gacha, but it does have monetization for appearance. You can change your appearance, accessories, and hairstyle, and there’s a vendor to buy stuff. Egg hatches after 60 minutes.
Exploration, sanctum puzzles, and traversal tips
Explore a lot before going to Bloomville. There are chests around, some under water or behind breakable walls, and you can push objects out of the way. Lumen amber and Lumin amber can both be collected.

Sanctum puzzles involve burning things to drop them, waiting for timing, shooting when extinguished, and hitting boxes in time — if you’re too early, the box breaks and falls. Some Sanctums have no gyro controls like Breath of the Wild. There’s a Sanctum later with an Aniimo that has poor vision, but you can go first-person view to see through its eyes and look for its eyes to change the land and open new paths.

Other traversal and progression notes:
- Enemies can be level 30 or 35, and there’s a sanctum close by.
- To evolve Aniimo, rest with the Pathfinder from night to day and learn the passive talent Dream Song.
- The branch can be upgraded.
- You can climb and jump to reach high places, and there’s a boss in the distance.
- Nicole is an NPC you can talk to later.
- Photo mode is available.
- Use auto-log and change Aniimo for traversal.
- There’s a cave to go through.
The game is very generous early on with time, so poke around before you rush the story. That’s the whole loop: catch, report, upgrade, repeat — and by the time you walk into Bloomville, you’ll be doing it without checking a guide.
