Big Walk: How to Start the Train (the Big Ride Achievement Guide)

The train in Big Walk is a deceptively simple machine: three slow-moving carts loop the map on a fixed track, and getting one moving sounds like it should be a matter of finding the right lever. It isn’t. The actual unlock chain sends you across the entire map, up a lighthouse, and through a five-dial puzzle before you even touch a key. The whole run takes roughly 15 to 20 minutes if you know where you’re going — and closer to an hour if you don’t. This guide cuts that down to the essentials: the exact route to the blue lighthouse, the dial sequence, and the final key insertion at the train station that pops the Big Ride achievement.

Goal: What Unlocks the Big Ride Achievement

The train is a slow-moving vehicle that loops around the map, and there are three trains in total. To unlock it, you must travel across the map to the blue lighthouse, insert five dials, obtain a key, and use it at the train station. That’s the entire chain — no side quests, no optional objectives, just one long traversal with a puzzle at the midpoint.

Here’s the short version of what you’re working toward:

Requirement Details
Location Blue lighthouse, far side of the map beyond a mountain
Puzzle components Five dials inserted into slots at the top of the lighthouse
Key reward Obtained after all five dials are placed
Final step Insert key at train station to start the train
Achievement unlocked Big Ride

The train itself is not a fast travel option. It’s slow — painfully slow. But it’s also the only way to earn the achievement, so you’ll want to do this at least once.

1. Locate the Blue Lighthouse

From the starting/tutorial area, travel all the way across the map to the blue lighthouse. It’s marked on your map, but here’s the catch: it sits beyond a mountain, so you can’t just walk in a straight line. Use the map room to track your position (red marker) and the lighthouse location (blue marker). If you haven’t opened the store yet, you may need to go all the way around the red area to reach the lighthouse.

Tip: Activate the chairlift at the green location on the map. It makes the journey significantly easier and cuts down on the walking time.

2. Climb to the Top of the Lighthouse

Once you reach the lighthouse, climb to the top. That’s where you’ll find the five dials. They’re not hidden — they’re sitting in plain sight in a series of slots. The game refers to them as “lovely things,” which is a cute way of saying “puzzle pieces you need to collect.”

3. Insert the Five Dials

Insert each of the five dials into the slots on the lighthouse. There’s no specific order required — just slot them all in. This is the core puzzle of the entire unlock chain, and it’s straightforward once you’re physically at the location.

4. Obtain the Key

After inserting all five dials, the key will be available. Take it. This is your ticket to the train station.

5. Follow the Marks to the Train Station

Walk around following the marks on the ground until you reach the train station. The marks are visible and guide you along the correct path — don’t try to shortcut through the terrain unless you enjoy getting stuck on geometry.

6. Insert the Key at the Train Station

Insert the key at the train station. The train stationed there will start moving, and you will unlock the Big Ride achievement. That’s it. The achievement pops immediately upon insertion.

Tips & Troubleshooting

The train is very slow. It may not be the best way to get around the map, and honestly, it isn’t — you’ll likely outpace it on foot in most situations. But if you want the achievement, you have to do this at least once.

  • There are three trains in total, rotating on a loop. They share the same track, so you’ll see them pass each other periodically.
  • The train may not have moved far even after several minutes of gameplay. This is normal. The train’s speed is genuinely that low.
  • If you want faster travel, consider waiting for a mod that increases train and walking speed. The video creator who documented this process suggested exactly that, and it’s a reasonable workaround if you plan to use the train regularly.
  • The blue lighthouse is located far from the starting area, beyond a mountain. Don’t underestimate the distance. Plan for a long walk, especially if the chairlift isn’t accessible yet.

Warning: If you haven’t opened the store yet, you may need to go all the way around the red area to reach the lighthouse. This adds significant time to the journey. Activate the chairlift (green location) first if possible to avoid the detour.

One last note: the map room is your best friend here. It shows your current position (red marker) and the lighthouse location (blue marker). Check it frequently, especially if you’re navigating unfamiliar terrain. The path to the lighthouse isn’t linear, and getting turned around in the mountain area is easy to do.
