The Chess Board puzzle in the Greenhouse randomizes its piece layout per save file. My arrangement is different from yours, and yours is different from everyone else’s. That means any guide that simply hands you a solved board is useless. What you actually need is the method: how to derive the positions yourself, then apply them.

Step-by-Step Walkthrough

Use this if you don’t want to work through the hints yourself.

1. Take your Smartphone and scan the QR code on the Lobby Computer — the terminal where you got the touchless door opening ability.
2. Scan the second QR code inside Rafael’s Locker.
3. Save both website links somewhere you can read them easily.
4. Go to the Greenhouse computer and enter those links into the browser.
5. You will receive hexadecimal positioning for the white and black pieces.
6. Take that code to the Lobby Computer on the top floor and run it through the HEX decoder — the same one you used to decode the floppy disc for the Cubiks Cube.
7. Apply the decoded positions to order the chess pieces on the board.

Solving it correctly rewards you with a Tarot Cards draw.

Editor Warning: The HEX decoder only exists on the top-floor Lobby Computer. The lower lobby terminal will not decode the chess positions, so don’t waste time trying it there.

 

Common Sticking Points

• Wrong computer: The Greenhouse computer and the Lobby Computer serve different roles. Links go into the Greenhouse machine; decoding happens at the Lobby machine.
• Missing QR code: If your Smartphone can’t scan the code, make sure it has the QR function unlocked and that you are close enough to the screen or locker label.
• Not copying the links: Scan first, store the links, then move to the Greenhouse. Re-scanning later is possible, but saving them upfront avoids a round trip.
• Misreading the hex output: Codes like 2D, 5E, and 53 are hexadecimal, not letters and numbers mixed at random. Two characters map to one position value.
