Romestead – How to Unlock the Temple of Vulcan and Survive the Fire Zone

If you’ve just wrapped up the desert bosses and are heading into the volcano area in Romestead, you’re probably getting roasted alive. The fire damage hits harder than the desert poison, and the temple unlock puzzle isn’t exactly obvious. Don’t worry — I’ve got you covered. Here’s a complete step-by-step guide on how to unlock the Vulcan Temple and survive the volcanic zone.

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Locate the Volcano Vulcan Temple on the Map

The temple appears as a money bag icon on the minimap (see Figure 1). Head to that location once you’re in the volcano zone.

Step 2: Find the Four Stone Levers

Around the temple, you’ll find four stone levers (see Figure 2). Each lever has a slot that’s missing something — an iron rod.

You need to bring 4 iron rods with you. Insert one rod into each lever slot, then pull the lever. Make sure all four are activated.

Step 3: Break the Jar After Activating All Levers

Once all four levers are pulled, a jar will appear nearby. Break it open. Vulcan (the volcano god) will emerge and tell you to go home.

Step 4: Return Home and Visit the Altar

Go back to your home base. Find the altar and interact with it (see Figure 4). Vulcan will tell you what materials you need to bring.

Important Note: The required materials are not fixed. For example, my game asked for clay mine materials, but another player’s game asked for quarry materials. Don’t just copy what someone else brought — check your own altar first. Otherwise, you might think it’s a bug when your materials don’t match.

Tips for Surviving the Volcano Zone

  • Fire damage is brutal. The volcano enemies hit hard with fire, and the burn damage is worse than desert poison.
  • Find Aloe Vera Paste in local chests. This item boosts your fire resistance. Open every chest you come across in the volcano area — they often contain this lifesaver.
  • Don’t rush into combat. If you’re still getting used to the zone, take it slow and stack up on fire resistance items before engaging.
