The Restless Ghosts quest sends you across Bramblemead Valley and the Whispering Swamp to track down four spirits that only show themselves after dark. I wrote this guide so you can finish the whole chain without wandering around at night guessing where to look.
If you are still early in the game and want a solid starting point before questing, this 1.0 guide covers the basics.
Requirements
You need two skill levels before you can complete everything here:
- Level 20 Woodcutting — needed to chop the thorny vine blocking Finn’s spirit.
- Level 5 Agility — needed to get the Windstep ability.
Don’t skip the Agility level. Without Windstep you simply cannot reach one of the ghosts, and it is easy to miss that requirement until you are already standing at the cave.
Items You Need to Bring
Two options here, depending on your preferences:
- 5 air runes to cast Windstep.
- Any axe, or 10 air runes and 5 astral runes to cast Axtral Projection.
The axe route is simpler if you already carry one. The spell route works if you would rather not swap weapons.
How to Start the Quest
Head to the ruined village north-west of the Wise Old Man. Find the crumbling well and interact with it. You will receive the ghostspeak amulet, which is what lets you talk to the spirits.
Once you have the amulet, your job is to speak with four ghosts across Bramblemead Valley and the Whispering Swamp. Remember that the ghosts only appear at night. If nothing shows up at a location, check the time before you assume you are in the wrong spot — that mistake cost me a fair bit of walking.
Ghost Locations

| Kay’s spirit | A ruined house in the Whispering Swamp, along the border with the Bramblemead Valley. |
Finn is the one that trips people up. Cast Windstep to reach the lip of the cave, then use a logging axe to destroy the thorns blocking the entrance before you can go inside.
Remembering the Ghosts
After you have met all four ghosts, travel to the Remembrance Shrine. It sits outside at the south-west corner of the church where you first spawned.
The shrine is a large stone flower vase placed on top of a stone sculpture. Interact with the statue and choose each option to “remember” all four ghosts. It is a small statue, so keep an eye out if you have not been back to the starting area in a while.
Rewards
Completing the quest gives you 1x Restless Ghosts reward pack, which contains:
- 1x Tome of Cooking – Vol 1.
- 1x Tome of Woodcutting – Vol 1.
- 1x Tome of the Artisan – Vol 1.
- 1x Tome of Mining – Vol 1.
Four skill tomes from one quest is a strong payout, so it is worth finishing before you move on to other content.
