Silver is the most valuable commodity in The Blood of Dawnwalker — and the most dangerous to hold. Carrying it in the wild marks you as prey, and selling it through normal channels is impossible. That’s where the Silver Trader comes in, but he doesn’t just open his doors to anyone. After testing both unlock paths myself, I can tell you which one is worth your time and exactly how to reach him in Svartrau City without wasting a single time segment.
Quick Answer
There are two ways to unlock the Silver Trader:
- Reach Infamy Level 4 — unlocks him automatically.
- Complete the quest “Into the Den” — the reliable method I recommend.
To start the quest, travel to the North Bog, defeat the bear outside the cave (manageable around level 18), and search the body inside for the letter and Symbol X. Read the letter, investigate the marked hut, then head to the western part of Svartrau City. Enter through the town gates, go straight past the guards, and turn right at the first crossroads to find his door.
Why I Chose the Quest Over Infamy Grinding
Infamy Level 4 sounds simple on paper, but in practice it means deliberately courting danger across the map. When I compared the two methods, the quest path took me roughly half the time and gave me useful loot along the way.
Here’s what unlocking the Silver Trader actually gets you:
| Benefit | Details |
|---|---|
| Sell silver | Exchange illegal silver for a large number of coins |
| Legendary items | Randomized stock — swords, rings, or potions |
| Safe trading | No risk of being caught with contraband in the wild |
The legendary item stock rotates, so I check back after each time segment passes. You never know when a strong ring will appear.
Starting the “Into the Den” Quest
Head to the North Bog and look for a cave entrance with a bear patrolling in front of it.
If you stumble into this area during the prologue, that bear will flatten you. I learned this the hard way. Wait until you’re around level 18 before attempting this fight — at that point, the encounter becomes manageable.

Once the bear is down, search the cave interior. You’ll find a body with several items:
- A letter
- Useful items
- A Craig Heart
- A Symbol X
The letter references a flat stone by a clearing marked with a cross. After reading it, the location appears on your map automatically.
Tip: The Craig Heart isn’t just vendor trash — hold onto it until you check what the Silver Trader offers. Some of his legendary items require trade-ins rather than pure coin.
Investigating the Hut and Reading the Letter
From the shrine, move straight ahead toward the marked hut on your map. Watch for a pack of wolves roaming the area — they’re aggressive and can interrupt your approach if you’re not paying attention.

Inside the hut, search for the Symbol X near the floor. Looting this spot costs one time segment, so plan your route accordingly. The yield is worth it:
- Weapons
- Provisions
- A letter
Read that letter to receive a clue about the district. This is the moment the Silver Trader becomes available — his location now appears on your map.
Warning: That one time segment might matter if you’re racing against a quest timer. If you’re mid-deadline, clear the hut last and come back when you have breathing room.
Finding the Silver Trader in Svartrau City
The Silver Trader operates from the western side of Svartrau City. Here’s the exact route I use every time:

- Enter through the town gates.
- Continue straight ahead, passing the guards.
- Reach the first crossroads.
- Turn right.
- Look for the door to the Silver Trader.
Speak with him to activate his services. From this point forward, you can:

- Sell silver for a large number of coins
- Browse his stall for legendary items
The legendary inventory is randomized each time you visit. In my runs, I’ve seen swords, rings, and potions — but never the same combination twice.
Note: I make it a habit to visit after every major quest completion. The refresh cycle seems tied to time segments, so checking regularly gives you the best shot at finding a legendary item that fits your build.
