To craft Vitamin D in The Last Caretaker, I follow this rigid sequence: gather Bio Light from Glow Creatures at any point of interest, build the Forge, connect it to both power and fresh water, place the Bio Light inside, and wait for the process to complete. The Forge outputs Vitamin D automatically once all requirements are met.
Why Bio Light Is the Only Ingredient That Matters
Here is the thing about Vitamin D production in The Last Caretaker: the entire process hinges on one resource, and that resource is not hard to find once you understand the spawn logic.
Bio Light drops from Glow Creatures. These creatures are attracted to light, which makes them predictable. I have found them in large numbers at every point of interest I have visited, so I never need to hunt across the map for a specific biome.
| Resource | Source | Where I Find It |
|---|---|---|
| Bio Light | Glow Creatures | Every point of interest (attracted to light) |
The key takeaway: if you see light, you will see Glow Creatures. If you see Glow Creatures, you have a Bio Light source.
Tip: I always carry a light source when exploring points of interest. It pulls Glow Creatures toward me, cutting my farming time roughly in half.
If I need another resource that comes from a different production route, I check my How to Get Omega 3 guide— the nighttime water creatures follow a completely different spawn pattern.
My Step-by-Step Vitamin D Crafting Process
Once I have a stockpile of Bio Light, the crafting process itself is straightforward. I do not need rare materials, advanced tools, or a specific character build. I just need the Forge and the right connections.

- Gather Bio Light from Glow Creatures at any point of interest. I repeat this until I have at least 3–5 units so I can test the Forge without constantly running back.
- Obtain the Forge recipe and build the Forge. This is a one-time setup cost. After the Forge is built, it stays operational for repeated crafting.
- Connect the Forge to a power source. Without power, the Forge will not start the processing cycle.
- Connect the Forge to a fresh water source. This is the step I see most players miss. Power alone is not enough.
- Place the Bio Light inside the Forge. I open the Forge interface and deposit the Bio Light into the input slot.
- Wait for the process to complete. The Forge runs its cycle and produces Vitamin D on its own.
| Step | Action | Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Gather Bio Light | Glow Creatures at any point of interest |
| 2 | Build the Forge | Recipe obtained |
| 3 | Connect power | Electricity source |
| 4 | Connect fresh water | Water source |
| 5 | Insert Bio Light | Input slot |
| 6 | Collect Vitamin D | Wait for cycle to finish |
Warning: I have tested this multiple times. If you connect power but skip fresh water, the Forge sits idle. It will not process Bio Light, and you will waste time wondering why nothing happens.
How the Forge System Works for Other Resources
The Forge is not exclusive to Vitamin D. It is the central processing unit for multiple resource chains in The Last Caretaker. Once I understood the Forge mechanics for Bio Light, I realized the same system applies to other materials.
The Forge unlocks at level 10. Before that level, you cannot build it, so progression matters.
For Calcium, the process mirrors Vitamin D but uses a different input material:
- Find a dark point of interest (a location where light does not reach).
- Defeat the creature that spawns there to obtain Bio Dark.
- Place Bio Dark into the Forge.
- Connect the Forge to fresh water and electricity.
- Collect the Calcium produced.
The pattern is identical: gather a material, feed it to the Forge, provide power and water, collect the output.
If I need to optimize my Calcium farming as well, I follow the route in my How to Get Calcium guide.
My Farming Loop for Repeated Vitamin D Production
Once my Forge is set up, I do not need to rebuild anything. The loop becomes a simple repeat cycle:
- Travel to any point of interest.
- Attract and defeat Glow Creatures.
- Collect Bio Light drops.
- Return to the Forge.
- Deposit Bio Light, confirm power and water are connected.
- Collect Vitamin D after the cycle completes.
The only bottleneck is Bio Light supply. Since Glow Creatures spawn in large numbers at every point of interest, I never experience a resource drought.
Note: I keep my Forge connected to power and water at all times. That way, I only need to deposit Bio Light and wait. No reconnecting required between batches.
