Across the Obelisk: How to Bypass Paradox Launcher (Two Methods)

Don’t want to click another ‘Play’ button just to get into the game? Me neither.

 

Method 1 by stiffmeds

  1. Press the Windows key (it looks like a flag) and type in “command”.
  2. Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
  3. Right-click Across the Obelisk (our favorite game!) in Steam and select Manage–>Browse local files.
  4. Click into the address bar and copy the path. It should look something like this: 
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam Games\steamapps\common\Across the Obelisk
  5. In Command Prompt, type “cd”, space, quotes, paste, quotes, e.g. 
    cd "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam Games\steamapps\common\Across the Obelisk"
  6. Press enter. You’re now in the matrix AtO folder!
  7. Copypaste the following in: 
    ren dowser.exe dowser.old
mklink dowser.exe AcrossTheObelisk.exe
mklink /j dowser_data AcrossTheObelisk_Data
  8. Press enter, then close command prompt.

You will need to re-do this every time there is a patch.

If you get a “data folder not found” error, then you may not have done the final step.

Method 2 by Shiruku

Simply right click AtO in your Steam library and go to Properties.
Enter the following command in the Launch Options, replacing the file path with the path on your own computer that leads to Across the Obelisk.

“E:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Across the Obelisk\AcrossTheObelisk.exe” %command%

The quotation marks are necessary.
If you’re unsure where your AcrossTheObelisk.exe file is located, hit Browse Local Files in the right click options to be taken to its location.

You can also do these same steps for any other games that have annoying launchers, simply replace the target file path with the applicable one using the game in question’s actual .exe file.
