This guide will tech you a efficient method to farm Refined ingot in the new Palworld 1.0.
Overview
Refined Ingot is a two-resource recipe: Coal plus Ore. The manual grind works early on, but by level 30 the demand outpaces any hand-mining operation. The solution is full automation. Build the right mines, assign the right Pals, and the ingots stack up without you touching a furnace. The only real work is unlocking the tech and placing the buildings once.
Required Resources and Locations
You need two raw materials, and both can be automated if you hit the right levels.
Coal
- Found in dense clusters in the desert biome northeast of the starting plateau. Look for black rock formations on the map.
- At level 37, unlock the Coal Mine technology. Place it in your base on a flat foundation. Assign any Pal with the Mining work suitability — Penking, Digtoise, or Anubis work well.
Ore
- The same desert biome also spawns Ore nodes, often right next to Coal deposits. This makes manual farming trips efficient if you go early.
- At level 24, unlock the Ore Mine. Build it in your base. Same rule: assign a Mining Pal. Two mines running simultaneously means you never run dry.
Location tip: Build your main base near a cluster of both resources if you want to skip the mines entirely. But the mines are safer, faster, and require zero travel time.
Crafting Refined Ingot

The Improved Furnace is your only option. Unlock it at the Technology tree (requires level 28 and a few Ancient Technology Points). Build one — or better, build two or three.
The recipe: 2 Ore + 1 Coal = 1 Refined Ingot.
Speed optimization: Assign a Fire-type Pal to each furnace. The Pal will automatically ignite the furnace and cut smelting time by roughly 40–60% depending on its level. High-tier Fire Pals like Jormuntide Ignis or Blazehowl Noct nearly double the output rate. A base with three furnaces and three Fire Pals will outproduce a single furnace with no Pal by a factor of five.
Pro tip: Stack furnaces close to your storage boxes. Pals will path faster, and you can grab ingots without running across the base.
Tips & Troubleshooting
- Priority order: Unlock the Ore Mine at level 24, then push for the Coal Mine at level 37. In between, manual farm from the desert biome. It is a grind, but it only lasts a few levels.
- Pal selection for smelting: Jormuntide Ignis is the fastest Fire Pal for furnaces. Blazehowl Noct is a solid alternative. Avoid low-level Fire Pals like Foxparks for bulk production — they are too slow.
- Manual fallback: If you cannot build mines yet, the desert area near the starting region has both Coal and Ore within a short walking distance. Mark it on your map. Bring a flying mount and a metal pickaxe. One trip can yield 200+ Ore and 100+ Coal in under ten minutes.
- Common issue: Pals stuck on pathing. Keep furnaces and mines on flat ground with no walls or decorations nearby. If a Pal keeps dropping its task, pick it up and throw it directly onto the furnace or mine.
