Two crafting materials keep stalling players in the 1.0 update: Ancient Bark and Ancient Lava. Both drop from mining nodes tucked inside Wildlife Sanctuaries, and neither requires the Plasma Multicutter or any specialty gear. A bow, a pickaxe, or whatever weapon is in your hotbar gets the job done. This guide gives you the exact coordinates, node appearance, and the fastest route to both farming spots so you stop wasting playtime wandering the wrong island.
Overview: Ancient Bark and Ancient Lava in Palworld 1.0
Both materials come from mining specific nodes, not from Pals or drops. That distinction matters because it means farming runs are predictable — no RNG breeding, no waiting on spawn timers tied to creature kills.
Requirements are minimal. Any weapon breaks these nodes, including a basic bow. You don’t need the Plasma Multicutter that some players assume is mandatory for “ancient” tier resources. The real challenge is just getting to the right sanctuary and recognizing the nodes once you’re there.
| Resource | Location | Node Type | Tool Needed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ancient Bark | Sea Breeze Archipelago, Castaway Beach (-98, -712) | Stump-like ground nodes | Any weapon or mining tool |
| Ancient Lava | Isle of Silence, Wildlife Sanctuary No. 2 | Lava-like ground nodes | Any weapon |
Ancient Bark Location and Farming

Head to Sea Breeze Archipelago and land at Castaway Beach, coordinates -98, -712. From that landing spot, go east into the Wildlife Sanctuary. This is the only zone with these nodes, so don’t waste time checking the surrounding beach.
Once inside, look down — the nodes are stump-like objects sitting on the ground, easy to mistake for scenery if you’re not paying attention. Mine them with a weapon or a mining tool; there’s no special interaction required, just hit them like any other resource node.
The sanctuary is dense with these stumps, both near the entrance and deeper inside. If you’re farming in bulk, bring a flying Pal. Circling above the sanctuary lets you spot clusters of stumps far faster than running the ground on foot, and you’ll usually find enough nodes in one sweep to stock up for several armor crafts.
Ancient Lava Location and Farming

Fast travel to Isle of Silence. This saves you a boat ride and drops you close enough to reach the sanctuary on foot. From the fast travel point, head southwest into Wildlife Sanctuary No. 2 — note the number, since this island has more than one sanctuary and only this one holds the lava nodes.

Inside, the nodes look exactly like their name suggests: lava-like formations scattered across the ground. Break them with any weapon — a bow works fine, and there’s no need to switch to a specialized tool.
Nodes are spread throughout the sanctuary rather than clustered in one corner, so expect to walk a bit between farming spots. No node here demands special gear, which makes this one of the more straightforward farming loops in 1.0 once you know where to look.
What Ancient Bark and Ancient Lava Are Used For
Both materials feed into mid-to-late game armor crafting, which is the main reason players go hunting for them in the first place.
Armor requiring Ancient Bark:
- Air Walker Mk I
- Islander’s Tool Belt
- Pal Tamer’s Glasses
- Reptyro Charm
Armor requiring Ancient Lava:
- Air Walker Mk II
- Ring of Trust
- Warsect Terra’s Belt
- Wumpo Charm
Notice the naming pattern — Mk I gear leans on Bark, Mk II gear leans on Lava, so if you’re chasing the upgraded version of an accessory, plan a second farming trip to Isle of Silence rather than assuming your Castaway Beach stockpile covers everything.
